Transmission in DD

Headed to work this morning I noticed that the exhaust sound changed tone as I was going over the overpass and onto the downside of it. I thought that was weird. So I went on and it did it again on the next over pass. So I looked at my RPM gauge and the RPMs jumped up like the torque converter unlocked. As I reached the bottom of the overpass the RPMs dropped to 2,000 at cruising speed. So cruising on it did it again until I approached the next overpass and it stayed at 2,000 RPMs and as I topped it and headed down the RMPs increased to 2,5000 and stayed there until the next overpass and the RPMs dropped as I started up it. If I give it some gas the RPMs drop to normal. Let off the gas and the RPMs jump up as the torque converter unlocks. And when I set my cruise control the RPMs fluctuate from 2,00 to 2,500 and back. This is my daily driver so any ideas will be appreciated. Right now I am gonna go check my fluid level. Tranny only has a 103K on it.
Also could anyone suggest a reputable Tranny shop in the Houston, Tx area if my tranny needs a rebuild. Does Circle D tranny or just torque converters?

If this is doin what I think it is, exactly the same problem I had for years. Does it sound like a slow slip like its tryin to kickdown but more throttle and it goes back to normal?? Its a pressure problem in the valve body. I dont think its the TCC solenoid but the shaft or valve where the bore is worn out. Very common and alot of tranny shops have persuaded customers it needs a rebuild.

My 80e, I guess everyone's 80e, does the same exact thing. We're all waiting for a software update that does not unlock the converter on decel or coast.

Update... Fluid level was good. Took truck to a tranny shop and he did an on road diagnostic. He seemed pretty thorough and explained everything after he realized I was not the common Joe who knew nothing about trucks. Anyhow we could not make the truck do what it did this morning. He asked if there was a check engine light that came on; which there wasn't. I even checked for a code with my code reader. So anyhow drove to San Antonio and the tranny did not act up 1 time. Maybe it was just a Fluke as he said as the 4L60E trannys have. Either way I will keep my eye on it and the fluid level.

RUFFNECK it does not seem like a slow slip. What it did was opposite of what a torque converter should do. With a load on the truck; such as, going up hill the torque converter should unlock to accelerate, but it stayed locked and lugged along and going downhill with the load off the truck the torque converter unlocked. Weird huh?, but I will keep you information in mind if it does it again.

Well mine was similar. It only happened during summer when it was hot. On a flat cruise or downhill slope when there is hardly any throttle load, it would come up about 5 or 600 rpms and stay until I gave more throttle then it would lock back up. I had to tap the brake several times to get it to unlock then lock to hold. It was so freakin annoying and got worse and worse.

try changing filter, see if maybe something is clogging.

Well RuffNeck it has only happened once so far, but I will be watching for it.Yours got worse in the summer months? Great!!! That is not good news, but it is informative. Thanks...

Oleshifty I am going to change the filter and fluid as soon as I get the chance. The 100K mile tuneup (plugs, wires, tranny filter/ fluids, etc...) has been a bit postponed since my 1st little one is going to be born in less than 3 weeks.

Oh yeah one other thing, I also kept my MAF clean cuz sometimes that would cause it. Just a thought.

So here is my next question or 2. 1st in a stock 4L60E tranny with a corvette servo; do I need the shallow or deep tranny filter? And What tranny fluid? I seen the Dex VI, but what I read on the back of the bottle was for 2005 and up. Will this work in my 04? I read the other thread about Tranny Fluid and it ended with Dex IV or VI. So will the Dex VI give the same affects as back in the days when people used Type F tranny fluid instead for better firmness in the shifting to avoid the slippage?

Update. I got a tranny filter and gasket. I also picked up 6 quarts of Tech 2000 Dexcon VI tranny fluid. And I went ahead and got plugs and wires too. Next on teh list is the antifreeze so I can flush the radiator system too.
Any suggestions on dropping the tranny pan. How do I remove the shift linkage bracket? Or do I just bend it out of the way? Any ideas appreciated.
