The timing table we setup will be OK for premium fuel and under normal conditions and on a normal truck shouldn't detonate. If the truck does, then it could be carbon build up, etc...
The cooler stats do help with detonation, but they shouldn't be the cure to get rid of detonation.
The pcm has tables that reference temp and timing to help avoid detonation.
If a cooler stat is used, it keeps your engine that much further away from detonating due to high heat.
