You can still make 500RWHP NA with a 6.0 and worked 243/799 heads. My old setup ran a best of 12.19 at 113mph and weighed in at 4600lbs. The calculators put me around 505rwhp. It consisted of LS2/LQ9 block, 243/799 ported and polished heads, 232/242 cam, TBSS intake, 42lb injectors, 90mm edelbrock TB, PRC dual springs and hardened pushrods, Heads were decked to 61cc chambers and bumped the compression to 11.2:1. This was also through a 4l80E with a 3200 PI convertor and 4.10s. Not really ideal for the track. This was also during the heat of the summer 100* plus. So I'm sure with some cooler air it would have been in the high 11's on motor.

DBRODS is definitely right, theres some good lookin LS1s over on tech with some nasty stickies on how to make 500+ NA. An LS1 of course but still

yeah "but still" is exactly right, they have .3 less liters to work with, every little thing matters when your trying to get that extra 5-10hp out of it. you would be better off with a lq9 (just because its that much more compression) iirc Patric G got 500+ on some ported 241 heads (stock ls1 heads not ls6's)

This is why I'm trying to do some learning now, before I start buying things. Theres just so many different options and I don't want to spend more than I have to, but I want some serious power and I want it to be reliable. I drive this truck all most everyday and I off-road it everynow and then. I checked ebay last night and the only set of LS3 heads I found were right at $1300.00. Is that a good price?

Sorry for the off topic question, but are stock LQ4 heads best if you plan on eventually going FI?
