To resize the rods they take the rod cap off and machine a little metal off the mating surface of the rod cap and/or rod. Then when they put the cap back on the rod, the big end of the rod is too small. The machinist then bolts the cap back on the rod and hones the big end of the rod to the correct size again. When done correctly this leaves the big end of the rod perfectly round and exactly the correct diameter (resized).

You cannot resize a factory stock cracked powdered metal rod. They can be checked for size and out of round but thats about all you can do to them.

    I never said you could.

He asked what it meant to have rods resized, so I explained it.

Did you get the 8740 or 2000 bolts? I've never had any resized...just bolt them in.

Jon, I went with the 2000 series, wasn't much price difference and supposed to be a better product, so it was just a little extra for more insurance to me.

Sorry but I don't have any experience with the 2000 series for stock replacement rod bolts. I always just use the 8740 series since they are stronger than the stock rod assembly anyway. I've always viewed the 2000 series as uneccessary I guess. Sorry I can't give you a straight answer.
