Yea, the paint cap worked but it still left the other resonator. Here is what it looked like after cutting them off.

Template made from an old folder. Used this to cut a black plastic piece from the old resonator I cut off.

Black plastic lemon shaped plug welded in with soldering iron.

Lower resonator cut off. This is where I use to have the paint cap.

Filler piece from the old resonator.

Welding process started, note big gap at the front yet to be welded.

Testing for leaks and fit before final sanding, filler and paint.

not bad not bad...FYI I did a test on under hood temps and after about 30 mph my truck showed a negligible difference between under hood temps and those directly from the area of the "CAI" box...So i'm not thinking the enclosures are completely necessary.

I can certainly appreciate your do-it-yourself mentality. Nice work, that was an idea that I wanted to try but never got around to since the Spectre cai was so cheap

Disabled and not removed but yeah same thing ...I need to buy the EGR kit from thunder racing.

I like my home made 4" setup alot more vs hacked stock intake tube. I can reach ambient temps alot faster with no box and strangely my fuel trims are smoother.

    good deal?? I think so.

I just bought one off e-bay, from chrome intakes. It comes with nice chrome intake tube, all the brakets nicely welded, all that you need to mount it, also pretty decent heat shield and what looks like a K&N filter 10 inches long. It was shipped fron california to my door in ontario, canada for what I think is a pretty smoking price of 119.00 canadian dollars all included. just thought I would mention this, thinking I got a good deal. and it sounds pretty good on the truck to. will try to get some pics up soon.

i went across the street from where i work and bought some 4'' exhaust tubing, then cut it at angles and tig welded it together, after that i smoothed it out really nice and painted it, then bought a straight 4'' silicon boot and a 90dg boot from pep boys, it went together perfectly
