    4L80e won't move

I got the 6.0L running last night, but the transmission isn't moving when put into gear, the dash gear shift light doesn't light up either.

At startup I put in 8qts, I started the engine for the first time and it sat in park for ~15min while checking the engine stuff. Afterward I realized the tranny had been running almost 3 qts low. I thought I might have ruined the oil pump, I took off a trans cooler line with the engine running and oil sprayed everywhere, so I think that is all good.

All of the electrical connectors are hooked up. I bought the engine and trans together so I never touched the flywheel or tq converter. Any ideas on where to start with troubleshooting this? I bypassed the park/neutral safety switch, could this be related?

    Thanks

Can you feel it shift into gear or just nothing?

sounds like maybe the shift rod inside the valve body came disconnected from the linkage possibly. That or the convertor is broken. You have fluid flow so it is connected properly. Could be broken internally somewhere too.

It doesn't feel any different shifting thru the range of gears.

If it was the converter, wouldn't it likely still kind of work? As in I would still feel it shift, it would just slip a whole lot and not move much. Or could it be completely dead.

Are you sure your linkage is hooked up? The dash indicator should show no matter whether the transmission is actually moving the shift rod inside or not.

could be a bad shifter, shift linkage external or internal, broken internals, stuck parking prawl internal.... many things could be wrong.

Ya the linkage has been hooked up but it is a little too tight and needs adjustment. I've been able to shift from park all the way to 1st, but it won't go all the way back to park. I've tried manually shifting with out the linkage, into forward gear, and then starting it, and still nothing.

Is this very unlikely this is an electrical problem, since it doesn't have feel like anything happens? Wouldn't it still have 2nd and reverse if it was electrical?

I'm not going to be able to work on the truck for a week or two since it is back at my parents garage and I'm at school during the week. But it sounds like I need to take the pan off and start inspecting the internal parts.

You have a problem at the position switch. This may not be why it won't go into gear, but there is a problem. Either your switch is bad or you have it wired wrong. The indicator should show what position you are moving the selector into, regardless of whether the transmission is actually shifting.

I'm back working on the truck again. The linkage from the detent lever to the valve body doesn't have any play or seem broken. I watched the parking pawl engage on the gear while in park but the driveshaft will still turn. Any ideas? I think I'm gonna get it trailered to a shop if I can't figure it out by tomorrow night.

    Thanks
