Yes, you can do a cam swap without the need to a higher stall. I would not go higher than the 21X range of duration and stay below .55X lift with a 114 or higher LSA.

Before I went nuts, I ran a Trick Flow 220/224/575/112 with a PI 3000 stall in mine. It was a nice, well matched street combo. Idle was good with a little chop. Didnt even notice the converter after the first day.
Might not want to go that big if your friends tows. But if he needs the truck to tow well I would stick with the stock cam.
The stock stall is designed for the stock cam. Go up in cam, go up in stall. Thats my advice to anyone otherwise things are less than optimum.

thanks for the help and i was leaning towards a trickflow 216/220 560/560 @114 i have actually run this cam before and i loved it what do you guys think
I always say go with the larger cams. You can always get a higher stall later.
I like that cam. Based on my experience with the 220/224, I would think a 216/220 would be pretty mild in a 6.0, but a good increase over stock. If you get bored easy or like to keep pushing the power, you might end up wishing you went bigger. What are the goals for the truck?

212/218,,,216/220/,,,tr220,tr224,,what do yall think about gm hot cam?
Lift is a little high for a stock stall...kind why I was saying stay in the 21X duration and below .55X lift. You can run that cam, but it might be a tad more sluggish down low. And by just a touch. The 6.0L motor is pretty torquey because of the displacement...
The TR220/TR224 both need 3000 stalls. The GM Hot Cam needs a 3400 stall. The ASA Hot Cam needs a 3600 stall.
