Seriously though, more info about the setup would be helpful. Things like, what length pushrods, which springs, how big is this cam, stock or aftermarket rockers...........

The short answer is you don't have enough lifter preload. Cams with higher lift need to be ground on lobes with smaller basecircle diameters. Otherwise the lobes wouldn't fit through the cam journal bearings. You need to increase the preload. This can be done with longer pushrods, longer valves, thinner head gaskets, milling the heads, milling the bottom of the rocker arm pedestals, or using adjustable rocker arms.

Your best bet is to get a dial indicater, measure the preload, and adjust accordingly. From the factory, the preload is set at about 0.125" - 0.130". For a street engine with a performance cam, I would suggest 0.080" - 0.090". For all out performance, use 0.050" - 0.080". If you go below 0.050", you start hammering on the springs, which will shorten their lifespan.

i pulled the valve covers today and found that i need longer pushrods. there's a small gap between the the valve and the rocker.
