Thread: Best gain for $1500?

    You guys are MOW-RONS. He has $1500 to spend. Blah blah blah on all of the bolt ons... Gavin is the only retard that has clued into this...

    Evan--do yourself a favor and buy an LQ9. Search all over. You can get one for about $800-$1000 if you search enough. And then, you'll have $500-$700 left for boltons. Why spend the $1500 now on a 4.8L just to max it out on boltons when you could spend that on a bigger motor and have about the same power??? Hell, you could even sell the 4.8L for a couple hundred to spend on more mods for the 6.0L!

    If I had $1500, I'd get an LQ9 and then spend the rest on worthwhile boltons.

    169 is not expensive for 10-15hp...
    blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum

    I see that point. I just can't justify it myself, the price for them plus what they take away from the belt driven components isn't worth the couple horsepower gain. I'm not knocking the idea, just not my way, you also have to remember that I'm a stereo dude. I need my alternator to do the best job it can do.

    No it's not too bad if that is dyno proven. I recall a 67 mustang I installed some stuff in that had low voltage problems due to U/D's. He replaced them to stock and his problems were no more. Granted our trucks have better factory alternators than a 67 stang, but I was under the impression that pulleys gave you 5-10 hp at best. Once again, not nay-saying, they just might not be the best choice for a stereo oriented person. I was just throwing it out there. You can never have too much power.

    I agree, going 6.0 now would be cheaper/better in the long run... IF he has a built tranny. I just assumed he didn't.

    I found a totalled 2500 HD once for $1200, there would be a good way to get both eh? Still kicking myself for not buying it; had lq9, 4l80e, hydraboost, etc. etc.

    10-15 was dyno'd on stock 6.0 gto...i'm assuming closer to 10 on stock truck...closer to 15 on mod'd one.


    As far as the system thing goes... i upgraded to a 145amp alt, and ran better cables, and my lights still get DIM at stop lights with stereo going...but are 100% normal once i start driving. Worth it IMO...and according to the ass-dyno. Was NEVER able to spin the 35's until i put it on, now i can squeal em from a dead stop.
