I would hate to loose the TBSS. I would be searching for another awd silver loaded. I bet it is really hard to find one. Only thing it would not have to have is that stupid useless nav.
99RCSB Broke because I wasted thousands and thousands of dollars on my truck.
Dude--I hear ya Jake. I have towed a few trailers in my day and HATE the feeling of being helpless in those situations because of the heavy load behind you just pushing you closer to imminent tragedy.
Years ago (2001) when I had my landscaping company, I was driving my '97 CCLB F-350 Powerstroke (don't worry fellas--it was the 7.3L) and was pulling my fully loaded 22' double axle irrigation trailer with 2 trenchers, cover-up machine, boring machine...etc. Came over a hill doing 60 in the left lane of hwy 820 and traffic was stopped 200 yds ahead. Like a moron, I DOVE into the brakes and locked up the fronts--not stopping and sliding out of control. I had that feeling you had Jake...so I crapped my pants and bailed out into the center median (these were the days before the concrete center dividers were standard fare) and luckily came to a stop before anything bad happened. That was the WORST feeling ever.

Holy sheeite Jake! About 7-8 months ago I was pulling our 22' flatbed with my bosses one of a kind 67 Mustang convertable on it when the same thing happened! Out here there are some surface streets that have a variable lane...during morning rush hour it goes one way, during the off hours it's just a turn lane, and during evening rush hour it goes the other way...it was nearing the end of morning rush hour so I made the turn into the variable lane because it was the easiest and most convienent. Some doucher pulls into the lane to make a turn as I'm coming up around 45-50mph. You're not allowed to even get in that lane from the other direction at any time unless it's off hours. So I hit them brakes and the trailer keeps pushing me farther and farther then the jackass gets out of the lane and continues going straight down the road!Almost lost the truck/trailer/car in the process. Man I think my boss would have been pissed.
I don't blame him one bit. I'd do the same thing David.![]()

Yeah, I almost lost my K-5 Blazer towing one time as well.
I had borrowed a car trailer and was towing my Mustang to the local (60 miles away) track to race.
Problem 1: I didn't have any trailer brake control unit mounted in the Blazer, and the trailer had electric brakes, so the trailer brakes weren't working at all. I wish that trailer had had surge brakes instead.......
Problem 2: With the short wheelbase of the Blazer and the fact that like a doofus I loaded the trailer very tongue-heavy, it was actually somewhat pulling the front end of the truck up and unloading weight off the front tires. Result, front brakes on the truck barely grabbed and the rear brakes were doing almost all the work.
Problem 3: I forgot that after I crested a particular hill and started down the opposite side, there was a stop sign about 3/4 of the way down the hill.
I would have slowed way down before I started down the hill if I had remembered that stupid stop sign was there. I of course hit the brakes as soon as I saw it, but by then it was way too late. I knew I wasn't gonna stop, so I started honking my horn and flashing my headlights as I bore down on the intersection......luckily the vehicles on the cross road there must have seen or heard me, because they let me go through. I had only slowed to maybe 40MPH despite my best efforts.
That was the one and only time I towed my car to the track. Both before and after that, I drove my car to the track, raced, and drove home. I did put a set of helper springs on the rear of the Blazer later, but never towed with it after that to see how they worked.
Also before I put the helper springs on I once towed a 4-place snomobile trailer up to northern Wisconsin, and the front of the truck was so unloaded due to trailer tongue weight (and gear piled to the ceiling in the rear) that the steering was diminished a decent bit as well. You know how your front end jumps up at the track from a dig? Minus pulling the front wheels completely off the ground (barely)...that was my truck for the whole trip. That was downright dangerous looking back, and it's a miracle I never got in an accident during the 700 mile + round trip.
