    engine swap

ok guys. my dad just bought himself a 383 stroker for his 85 chevy and has his old 350 he wants to give me. he has all the bells and whistles for it, so all i need to do is put it in. problem is when i get back from iraq in a couple weeks, it will already be sitting in my truck (the back) but he wont be there to help me put it in, being as he lives in louisiana and i live in north carolina. i've never dont an engine swap. he says its pretty easy to do, but he's not sure about how the computer is going to react. the motor only has 9,000 miles on it and it would be a huge upgrade from my 4.3 ltr V6. would anyone be able to give me the basics on how i would go about getting this done, and what i need to do to the computer if anything. any help is greatly appreciated.

Go to a salvage yard and buy a complete wiring harness for the V8. You'll also need stock V8 engine mounts for the crossmember and engine block plus exhaust manifolds for the V8 if he didn't give you the old ones.

BTW, what year is your truck?

well first, if the engine was in the 85 model it is carbed and you don't want to put it in your truck cause your computer won't run it and it would be way too much trouble. But that's my .2

Don't even think about doing a 350 swap into an 07. I'll drive all way way from Oklahoma to punch you in the nads.

Not really sure how emissions works in your state but if you go through with the swap, the truck will never pass a smog test and can be deemed illegal to drive. Get an LS based motor 07 or newer

Just swap in a 5.3 they are cheap and will be more reliable and easier to put in.

Ok, put me in line too.

The 350 is prolly a nice motor and all, but I would not waste the time/money to do the swap. A V6 to V8 swap in a NBS is a PITA anyway--so why complicate it even more by trying to do a carbed SBC?
