I was just wondering from those of you that swapped in a T56 how much you had to shorten your drive shaft? Esepcially those of you that had an automatic to start with? I am installing a 14 bolt rear end into my 1500 because I blew up the 10 bolt. It is a little longer and I might have to trim the drive shaft down. If I can, I will have them take a little extra off for the T56 so I dont have to do it twice.

    thanks,
    Mike

Do you have a 1-piece or 2-piece drive shaft?

Wait until you have done the swap then slide the output shaft yoke all the way into the transmission and measure from the center of the u-joint to the pinion u-joint center location. Take that measurement, minus one inch, to your driveshaft shop and you should be able to get your shortened shaft back within one day.

Just once unless you've already done it before. Mount the engine and transmission where you want them and then slide the transmission end of the drive shaft into the transmission. Take your measurement to the pinion end u-joint at the new rear end from the transmission end. Take off 1" and take that measurement to the driveshaft shop. That's how they usually tell you to measure the shaft length, u-joint to u-joint.

Hey I swapped a LS1/T56 combo into my 1500 and I reused the stock driveshaft. But I still only have a 10 bolt rear, but it sounds like Red has got you covered. Good luck with it.

I would think 6th gear would be usless if you are running 3.08 gears.
