Go some where else (salvage) and get it fixed and move on , but keep pressuring the guy to resolve the matter. Don't wait for him to give in or refund your money, your truck will be sitting for a long time!

Oh ya, some more advice, don't let anyone else touch that trans, throw it away, it's probably a POS by now, since he's touched several times.
A lot of times when a rebuild attempt it made, the crappy rebuilder tries something different each time and then is basically lost on what is actually wrong with the trans. I've seen this dozens of times!!!

So, go to the salvage yard, get yourself a low mileage good working 60e, put a shiftkit in it and be done.

Then continue to fight the bastard!

    trust me on this!!!

I was gonna suggest that but it sounded like you didn't want to spend much on it. You wont be disappointed with the swap, the 4l80 sucks more power from the wheels then a 60 but they are 10X stronger. i have seen so many threads just on this forum alone about "my 4l60e is toast"

Get a 10" stall converter to match your cam setup and gearing, you won't ever miss the 60e with the new strong and dependable 80e holding power and reliability. While you have the trans out, check the end play of the crankshaft to verify that you're not detroying transmissions with a bad crankshaft thrust bearing.

+1 this guy probably wont give in and youll end up spending a bunch of dough on a lawyer that may not get you a damn thing. Salvage yard, 60e, shift kit, and then drive past his shop with a carton of rotten eggs
