I'm the one dubbed junebug...or jewnbug according to some.
I do live in Mesa. What do you have planned for your build? Just some bolt-ons and a cam? I'm in the process of...have been for a year now...building an iron 370 with some spray.

What part of town are you in?

I live just a couple blocks down from the Mesa Community College. I'm attending class there also.

Basically planning on a cam for low RPM torque, probably keep the stock heads and index the ports and do a little porting, long tube headers, and rebuild it with LS1 pistons/rods if I can find them cheap enough. Not trying to make a HP/TQ monster just figure I'd improve a few things. The cold piston slap is extremely annoying so I'm hoping with a rebuild I can cure that.

Ah good old MCC. I went there for 3 semesters and then decided to switch to Apollo down on country club and southern. What are degree are you studying for?

If you're wanting to use LS1 pistons you will need to bore the block out. I would say find a junk yard pull out 6.0/80e with lowish miles that way you hve and excelent trans and a motor that will take very well to this mods. Should be a good little motor when done.

Either Mechanical Engineering or something in Political Science. Not sure if I want to design and build things or try and fix this damn country.

I know I'll need to bore the block out but a rebuild will cost me far less than a new block, transmission, and whatever else I need to make it work. I don't do enough hot rodding or pulling heavy stuff to need a 4L80E, plus I hate the tall first gear. I figure I shouldn't be putting out enough power to destroy a 60 with just an overbore and cams.
