I bought a 56" Mitsubishi DLP in '05. You'd better have a lot of room for it though, it's almost the size of the pre-HDTV projection sets. Very light, I could easily move it myself if it wasn't so bulky to get ahold of.

Overall, I like it. It needs a dark room, light on the screen will wash it out. If I had decent curtains in my living room instead of just cheap blinds it would be better. Viewing angles are very good. Absolutely no streaking during fast action like LCDs used to do.

The other selling point to my set is that the wear items are user-replaceable. Namely, the projector bulb and the "light engine" thingy which is something like 1.5 million tiny mirrors that direct the picture from the bulb to the screen. Anything goes wrong with a Plasma or an LCD and you're looking at shop time, which is never fast.

I had to replace my bulb once in the last 4 years. It cost $360, but I did it right at home without taking my set to some shop. Also, LEDs can get dead pixels (many laptop screens used to be LED and examining the screen of a brand new laptop for dead pixels was almost a rite of passage). Once they're dead, you'll always have that black spot on your screen. There's no pixels to die with DLP.

    *edit* my set is a 52", not a 56".

Another thing in favor of LG sets is the new "Net Cast" if you have a Netflix subscription.

The biggest drawback (and it is a big one) to DLP is the space it needs.

Great minds think alike. I have a Zenith (remember those ) 29" from 1997 that we got as our first large credit purchase as a married couple.

    Another thing to add:
-People say you have to worry about burn in with plasmas. Aside from the first few hours when you first buy it, there is almost nothing to worry about. Pretty much all modern sets have "screen savers" built in and even still the possibility of burn-in is minimal.

-People also say that Plasmas have a shorter life. Again, most are rated for a 60,000 hour half life. That means after watching it for 60,000 hours it will be half as bright as it was. There are 8760 hours in a year so you do the math. Even if you left it on 24/7 it's going to last you a while.

I'm a plasma fan, as you may notice, but there are some great LCD tv's out there.

Bottom line, is that if you're asking this question, you probably aren't going to notice the difference between any of the TVs mentioned. Heck a Westinghouse or Insignia tv is probably going to look great compared to what you already have.

I actually bought a 42" plasma tonight...Panasonic Vivera...pretty nice color, hell of a price...going tomorrow to get a HDMI cable to hook up the satellite and blue ray player.

Figure i can give it a year or 2 for the LED tv's to be out and get all the bugs worked out and drop in price a little bit
    2006 silverado SS....Clifford Jr...turbo coming soon
    1970 Chevelle ly6 swap....d1 coming soon

Good choice! I bet you'll like it.

Also, as far as HDMI cables, unless you're impatient and can't wait, I'd buy from Monoprice.com. They make great cables and are usually 1/5th the price of stores. I buy all my cables from them.
