be sure to have the assembly rebalanced if you put the 5.7L crank in the 5.3L engine, they balance a little different due to the weight of the pistons.

Not very much. To get a 5.7 out of a 5.3, you have to bore it .125 over.

ok, so a 5.7 and 5.3 crank are the same? the difference between the 4.8/5.3 and the 5.7 block are the piston size? just trying to clarify. see i have a 4.8 and thinking of throwing a 5.3/5.7 crank in it and putting larger pistons in. sorta a budget build for now. that some porting a mill job and a cam for the old truck that i never get to work on. if this is true, maby someone can help me out with a good combo in my ballpark of ideas

    5.3, 5.7, 6.0, 6.2 all use the 3.62 stroke crank....4.8 is a little shorter...

Yep, crank and rods are the same on a 5.3/5.7. The only difference is the bore.

The 4.8/5.3 have the same bore but different crank as stated above.

If you're going to bore one, I'd do the 5.3 and make a 5.7 out of it.

If you have a 4.8, you can keep the block but the whole rotating assembly has to change. DIfferent stroke (4.8L =83mm, 5.3/5.7/6.0/6.2=92mm stroke), but the 4.8L rods are longer to compensate for the shorter stroke.

    As for bores 4.8/5.3 = 96mm 5.7L 99mm (99.009mm to be exact).
5.3's are pretty cheap to come by, and would likely be less than the cost of machining on your 4.8L.

A "good" combination depends on what you want to spend, and how fast ya wanno go

If you can bore a 5.3 to 5.7 with the stock crank, what can you get by boring a stock 4.8?
