    Installed tranny cooler, now engine running hot

    Just got my lines connected this morning for my tranny cooler and I started the truck to test everything out. Then almost immediately after I started the truck, my efans turned on. The truck had not been started at all since last night and I noticed on the DIC that it stated 'Engine hot, a/c turned off'. I then realized that I forgot to plug in my mass air meter, so I turned the truck off and hooked it back up. After I restarted, the fans turned right back on and the same readout was on the DIC. It hasnt thrown a code, and when I drove a couple miles to see if the engine would cool off I noticed that my coolant temp gauge never got over 160 degrees (the needle never moved from when it was started). Its 85 degrees out right now and the tranny warmed up to 100, but my fans ran continously and the gauge never waivered. Anyone got any ideas, I need to get on the road to help a buddy move and Im late?! Btw its nnbs LT with a 4.8 and a 60e, basically stock except for a Spectre cai.

    did you happen to drain the coolant for some reason? Is the reservoir full? Did you disconnect anything else other than the MAF? Did this occur just after the trans cooler or did you also add the cold air induction at the same time?

    Problem fixed. I guess because I had forgotten to plug in my mass air meter the first time I started the truck, it reacted as a hot engine and kept my efans running. All I did was clear my po171 lean code and the fans shut off and the truck has been running great all day since.

    Btw, my lean code is from my breather filter setup, which I need to splice back in to my intake tube I think. Keeps throwing that same code every couple of weeks

    Been running mine without the breather plugged in for 6k miles with ZERO issues.

    I wish I could say the same thing. I left it unhooked for a day or two and then the code came up. I put a filter on it and then it stayed off after I cleared it. Finally the code came back after a couple of weeks. I cleared it , and the code didnt come back for another couple of weeks, until yesterday. Im going to cut a new hole in the intake tube and put a rubber grommet in there so I can just attach it the same basic way it came from the factory. Ive heard from Nathan, on this site, that the lean code is because of the breather tube not being run back in to the intake, so I guess I'll find out if it works or not.

    DiD you get the Tru-Cool 40k? I got mine on friday too. I love it temps do not go above 160.

    heres some pics of the finished product that I meant to put up a couple weeks ago







    btw, I know the cooler has a slight offset, but I did that on purpose since the drivers side of the radiator had the ps cooler and the new tranny cooler to contend with. All seems to work very well and my tranny actually shifts better and runs smoother now. I didnt expect to get that benefit out of it, so Im very pleased. Thanks for the advice guys

    I would not have ran than hose along the rad hose. Just me.

    The hose thats along the rad hose is the inlet line to the new cooler, which is hot from factory rad cooler anyways. The return line from the new cooler to my tranny inlet line is only about 18" long and runs along the passenger side of the rad. I wanted the return line line to be as short as possible so it wouldnt be affected by the rad temps on the way back to the tranny. Is this bad theory? Do you think this is a problem in the future?
