Agree.
The minimal gain in short times is probably better leverage of the gears vs. worse traction but laying over up top is a problem as is the vibration.
Where are you shifting it?

if you're in third gear at 80, what rpm are you at? That is the RPM you need to have the driveshaft balanced at. If your local shop can't do it, find one that can. Also, see how much slip yoke engagement you have. Your slip yoke should not have more than 1" of slide before it bottoms out, otherwise it can wobble on the splines and cause an imbalance. Also be sure your tires are balanced at the speed in question, if possible. Most shops don't have adjustable speed balancers for tires.

Mine shifts to 3rd at 5900 near 80 and I have about the same height tire combo so it's close to what it should be.
I ran 15.88 with just shorties, cai, catback and fast flash programmer.. I have the same cam, stall & gears as you do now, will be getting times soon and will let you know how I do..

I put about 100 miles before I hit the track and gave it about 5 heat cycles before I got on it
but still took it easy
