Looking to put ls1 in 81 square body

Hey guys new here and I was wondering how easy it would be to drop an ls1 into an 81 gmc 1/2 ton? Ive come across a good deal on the complete engine, wiring harness, and ecu.

The truck currently has a 98 vortec 350 in it with a th400. Will the ls1 bolt up to the 400 no problem? I know I need the motor mounts. Anything to add or recommend or comment on would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1999+ I would hope, I'm not a big fan of the one year only 1998 engine setups.

Is it hard to get the computer and everything to work together? Does the computer need to be reprogrammed? Id be bolting it to a th400 which is hydraulic obviously so the computer wouldnt be running it (being electronic) which would throw a light correct?

I'm sure there's a conversion kit for bolting to an older style transmission. I've thought about converting back SBC style, but money's tight right now. The LS engine is great (don't get me wrong), but SBC is so much simpler. For about the amount I spent on the swap, I could've had a MONSTER of a stroker in my truck.

Good luck on the swap. Search around the forum (this section particularly), and you'll find just about everything you want to know.

The transmission's bolt patterns are the same, they will bolt up just fine.
