Thread: Painting door handles and mirrors?

    Painting door handles and mirrors?

I have an '08 Chevy crew cab metallic graystone but it has the black mirrors and door handles. A buddy of mine is a painter and said they can't be painted because they are textured, is he right or can it be done?

Textured ABS is pretty soft and likely won't hold up to wear and tear if it's painted. Hard plastic would be the easiest and best looking solution. You might be able to order some from a dealership with cured paint; ready to install.

As for the mirrors. It would be nice to have a extra pair color matched. So you don't have bugs leaving perminant impressions in the fresh paint.
I guess it all depends on how picky you are.

me and my brother re-painted my chrome caps and they have permanent indentions from hitting bugs at 75+. We should have used good paint but it was just a temporary solution because they were in terrible shape when I bought the truck. As far as the handles go, order them from the dealership or get O.E. ones from eBay. I bought my Esky handles from a guy in Arkansas, they are O.E. I painted the handles on my 99 to match and they held up for at least a year. I sold the truck after that.

I sold a bunch of sets of painted handles. When the 07's came out we swapped chrome ones onto a bunch of trucks and I sold the painted ones that came off. I think I still have some painted ones. I'll look in my stash to see what color. Even if the color is wrong the painted ones can be repainted the right color.

I know atleast on the 99-07's, a lot of people on my other forum sanded past the texture, used a good adhesion promoter, and paint stuck fine.

However, i know how many bugs i scrap off my mirrors, and how bad my mom's painted tahoe mirrors look, so i'd probably leave them black plastic.
blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum

I looked in two of the three places I kept them and found two sets of bumpy balck ones and an engine harness for an Aveo

There's one more less accessible place to look and a buddy of mine might have some too....

Post a pic of the color.
