2001 GMC Sierra 1500 Sportside: Project esoteric
$5,901.21 from GMpartsdirect.com

The LS1 only makes 25 more HP than the 5.3L. I don't know what you've got (4.3, 4.8, 5.3), but $6k could be used to make a lot more than 25 HP if you do have a 5.3. Now, of course, the LS1 does weigh a lot less than the 4.8, 5.3, or the 6.0 because the LS1 is all aluminum, and the others all have iron blocks. How well would an aluminum block hold up in a truck, doing truck type things?

I have a 4.3 right now. =P
I'm doing all my exterior and interior BS first, so I can get the money for a LS1 or LQ4 or LQ9 swap...

Well, since you're probably looking at changing your entire drivetrain anyway, i'd prolly go with either of the 6.0's, but that's just me.

An LS2 is available from GMPartDirect.com, also. They have 400 hp straight out of the crate. They are equipped with the LS6 style heads. The LS2 is not much higher than the LS1 and it comes with a stand-alone type wiring harness that is something like a 4-wire hookup. Add an LS6 intake for about 15 hp more for $400 then add some long tube headers and you're ready to rock.![]()

Don't kid yourself, the LS1 makes alot more than 25 more HP than the 5.3. I've seen it make 50+ more at the wheels.

I've read that GM rated them at 320 hp so as to save consumers a butt-load of dinero at the insurance company. Otherwise insurance would cost the same as a Vette and we all know we don't want to pay those rates.

GM has done that before... anyone remember the Grand National?
