    Stuck in 4lo!

Saw the thread under this but mine's just the opposite.

Was at the ranch driving around hunting hogs tonight in 4LO, and when I got back on the improved road I tried to switch out of it to 2Hi. No noises, no "service 4wd message". The lights on the selector module flashed a bit on the button I was trying to switch to but that was it.
    any suggestions?

get it rolling.... just barely, then shift your transmission to neutral, still rolling maybe 2-3 mph... then try it. Mine does the same thing to me. if that doesnt work try doing it with the engine off in neutral, see if you hear it cycling trying to shift. If you dont here it trying to shift... might be the actuator or a fuse. good luck

The best advice I have ever heard:... Only take B( . Y . )ST advice from someone that is CURRENTLY running a turbo setup close to, or bigger than what you want......

If you happen to need one. I have 4wd switch, front diff, awd transfer case. I swapped to awd so have these parts sitting around. Chances are its an electrical issue. My truck never got stuck in 4lo. I forgot to switch back to 2wd once and pulled a trailer onto the hwy and couldn't figure out why it felt funny for about 3 seconds.

Yes, rolling very slowly in neutral. You should only have to shut the engine off to get it into or out of transfer case neutral.

First off thanks a lot for taking time out of your weekend to help me!

    Here's an update.

I went out this morning to look at the system some more and amazingly it shifted into 2wd and all the ranges just fine. Now for the confusing part. After driving around doing errands I tried to shift into 4wd and it went, but when I tried to go back it would only let me go into the Auto4wd mode. and vise versa. Again I parked it for an hour or so and tried to select 2wd. Went it just fine. But needed to get home so i didn't mess around any more with it.

The lights blink like it's trying to shift when the problems start. Could it be that the motor that switches modes is just flat worn out and heat is making it too hot to work? Or can someone please tell me that the dash switch is worn out so I can spend only a few bucks

Depending on what is wrong I just may take you up on that sir!

What AWD components did you swap over? What vehicle did they come from?

In a no-slip condition there is no functional difference between 2HI and AUTO on this system. I'm guessing you have DTC C0327 and the encoder sensor is intermittent.

I had a problem with the encoder a few years ago, but that time I was getting a "service 4wd" warning. This time I'm not. The symptoms are almost the same as before though. If i scan it will i be able to pull it up?

Was the encoder replaced when you were had those issues? I had an issue like that with mine when I first got it, the lights would flash and it would never switch. It ended up being the ground on the driver side frame rail, cleaned up the ground, reattatched, and it worked like a champ.
