Need help How much cam are stock valve springs safe for? I've never done a cam swap in a gen III motor, only old ass 350's. Wanting to put in a small cam I got for next to no $$$ then upgrade later. Trying to stay cheep for now . Got a 99 vette cam I'm gona try for a little while. Just to see. Hoping tu use stock stuff for now. Any info helpful. Please excuse dumd question I'm still new to modding these new (to me) motors. Thanks for the help.

No problem. With your 5.3 and this cam, it's kind of a "bolt on" upgrade. I don't think you need to worry about a spring upgrade. The stock springs are adequate to about .5 I think. Not sure about power gains, but some other guys may chime in on that.

I ran the 198/209 .500 .500 119.5 LSA in mine and didn't have a problem even manually shifting to the rev limiter (62-6300 I think) so you'll be fine, even without tuning...Zed

If you are floating the valves, better springs are definitely going to help.
