Also if you're looking for springs and pushrods www.texas-speed.com has a PRC dual spring and chromoly pushrod set for a good price. That's what I am going to end up going with. The springs are good to .660 lift so more than enough for the LS6 cam, and that way if you did decide to get a custom grind with more duration and lift you would be covered.

What psi are you wanting to run with this thing? Also how much power are you looking for?
Im thinking around 7-9 psi...haha... so lets say 8psi !!! I would like to see 420+ HP at the wheels. rom what ive read it looks like i might get close to 500 rwhp! but 420+ is pretty good IMO. I'm not trying to get to crazy as it is important I can run the motor 200 miles in the desert and still get it home!

I really appreciate the info here guys. this is sooo exactly what I was hoping for!

ok, so what exactly is the base circle? i see the ls6 cam is .050 smaller. what does that affect and is it a fitment issue?
of course im thinking ill have slop in it with the added clearence... but I really have no idea. I am learning and I am a good / fast learner. so I am confident in jumping into to a cam swap.
I come from Motorcycle engine work on the 4 strokes. I would imagine some similar things apply.

oh yea, i am gonna run it at a local 1/8 mile strip just to show off a little i hope! maybe wax a few imports or magnums!

I'm a huge fan of the rear mount turbos man but it's really not the most logical thing for you being a desert runner. You could get a lot of power and more reliability for the desert out of a front mount. I would say go with a 70mm that way when you out grow 420 rwhp you just have to turn up the boost.

Desert running? FMT. There is too much crap that could go wrong with a RMT when jumping dunes...

Yeah, 02 and up Z06 cam is good for boost. So is a Lingenfelter GT2-3. If you run a Z06 cam, you can use yellow Z06 springs. A little cheaper, but gets you the same result.

On a stock motor, 8 psi will be fine.

I guess if you like taking it in the rear go with a rear mount turbo ........ just say'n

There is a place for rear mount turbos.
Thats on cars that that is the ONLY place it will fit.

Next to engine and up high is better for many reasons.

    Turbo likes to be hot
Exhaust gasses going thru turbo like to be hot
Closer the turbo to engine the better
Gravity feed oil drain from turbo, no pump to go out, or blown seals.

If you're going to be off roading the LAST place I would want my turbo is under the car.

rear low mount turbos have everything you'd want in a good turbo design
    going against them.

x2 if you are going to be seeing any type of air time or some what extrem off road or anything where you might scrape ur frame rails that turbo kit will be dead, front mount turbo kit for the win! I also like the GT2-3 cam over the ls6 it should idle "meaner" if you will have some more lope. oh also about the springs might as well go all out if you are going boost get some PRC springs so you never have to worry about valve foat

hey dallas! I was just thru El Cajon this weekend. I went to the offroad swapmeet at Jimco. you didnt miss anything really. I have the whole build on dezert rangers.com "2000 chevy build".
I'll dig up a few pics for ya though... stan by..

ok... so no rear mount turbo. I'm trying to save space up front where the engine cage, shock hoop brace, resivoir...etc. I was thinking the rear mount turbo would be great. what if I plumed it up above the rear frame and fabricated it into the rear bed cage?
so what front mount turbo would be ideal? I'll spend the money if the product is worth it. so I mean whats a good one?

as for springs????? PRC Springs? do you know exactly what size and so forth springs I need? I will get em. I like the whole buy it once approach.

guy... thank you sooo much for all your help... I cant say thank you enough!!

He makes a better low mount set-up too. Puts turbo
near trans instead of under bed.

Front mount puts turbo next to oil filler neck. Not in the way of anything.
