I have a 76' Chevy C-20, and it already has a TH-400 in it. I want to put an LS1 in it. My question is, what am I getting into? And how hard/easy is it going to be? Thanks for any advice.

GMCWANTSLS1 has done a similar conversion. He can answer most any question specific to your particular year model. The conversion is pretty straight forward into any vehicle so you should not have any real issues in the conversion. My only concern would be the f-body alternator location in your truck. My 92 had to have the engine moved forward an inch or so to clear the motor mounts to the alternator. Street and Performance and March both make a set of a accessory mounts that will relocate the alternator and a/c unit up top. The wiring isn't too difficult, just takes time and patience.

I'm not sure how different your frame (1976 vs 1981) is from mine, but not a bad swap if you can do the work yourself. You will need to buy some special parts to make the 400 match up to the LS1 and make or buy some adapter plates to sit the LS1 on your orignal engine mounts. You will also need a high pressure fuel pump and a fuse/relay block to run the LS1's wireing harness. All my accessories are in the stock f-body location including AC.
