I prefer full on slicks for playing at the track, myself. Change them in the pits and only put miles on them there. At over $200 each I'd rather drive on $100 a piece regular tires on the street than my track tires. You can get steel wheels made for your application in 15-16" size for under $100 each from Bassett or Aero and spec the backspacing on the wheels and get them powdercoated in whatever color you choose. Plus the steel wheel only weighs about 16 lbs each.

Not sure of the reason but I ran slicks and DR's at the SAR meet. With the slicks, I ran two 1.8 60's. With the DR's I ran two 2.15 60's. So...consistent times on both tires, better results with slicks.

My question (in hopes of contributing to this thread) is if DR's are so great, why did they hurt my 60' time?

DOT legal slick the compound will never match to a slick cause a DOT tire is built to meet DOTdemands for street driving the key is a radial slick. not a DOT Radial

Yeah I know that, and I'm not arguing with George...but if there are cars making such great times with DR's why aren't trucks? Or why did I lose time?

it is all just car drag radials will never hook on my bracket/street car slicks will, then there is car that run dot radials who hook great i guees it is just suspension design and traction set up.

you setup to run the DRs? right psi and etc make a huge difference. If you have any doubt spend days over on tech for example and see all the cars.

George Im not trying to start anything. But Ive talked to every racer in my area. And around here there are some old carbed cars that will RUN that these older fellows have. I hear one thing from them every time when I talk about my truck. "hope you get it to hook" cars arent as tail light as a truck.

    Question

Thats what i was talking about the higher weight percentage over the drive tires = greater traction .so saying that a 200 pound fuel cell over the rear end could have better results then suspention and traction bars .since weight distibution effects traction as much tire or more
