    Help with stall...

Ok, this is for a buddy of mine. We just installed a g5x2 cam, 232/240 Duration, 595/608 Lift on a 112lsa, and was wanting a little advice on a stall to run. He still wanting to drive it daily and he pulls stuff pretty often. Its got a 2100 or so stall in it now when a built RPM trans, 3.73's w/ trutrac, and other little goodies... Just wanted to see what size stall he needs to look into.

    thanks
    justin

    3200 IMO...

Precision Industries, Circle D, or Yank...I would go with one of the first two.

will be getting a precision one im sure... we called the other day and was kinda pricing some. Just didnt want to order something without kinda knowing what we need. I told him somewhere around 3500 should be plenty.

a big converter, that cam and towing don't really go together.

compliment the cam with the correct converter or it won't run to its fullest potential.

i'd say in a truck, go with at least a 3800rpm stall converter.
keep in mind that truck isn't going to make any torque downlow, so a 3000stall isn't going to slip that high.
a 3800 will get that truck about 3500rpms or so, which is just right.

if you don't care about towing, get a 4000stall converter.

That's no tow cam. To make that cam work you need a lot of converter (3500 minimum and 4000 preferred) and a lot more gear than a half ton usually comes with...although some came with 4.10's even that is a minimum. Hope there are a lot of other supporting mods too like ported heads, higher compression or turbo/blower, weight reduction, etc.

There will be supporting mods... Heads are coming next. This cam was in a car with a 3600 stall and no freaking tune and ran a 11.8. Kinda crazy! But i kinda had a feeling for about a 3500 rpm stall or so.

thanks for all the help guys!

x2, your are going to need a good set of gears and a fairly big converter to move out on a cam like that.
