I was in a long distance relationship before. She was in Florida going to school and I was here in Texas. It sucked only getting to see each once a month or every couple of months, but it makes it that much better when you do! We've now been married for 5 1/2 years! So, ya I think it can work. It all depends on how much you want to make it work.

Any relationship can work if you both want it. Sometime if you make a bigger commitment one person might have to move and give up possibly their job, house, school, being close to family, babysitter ect. Go for it I think and see how it plays out.
