well, i was brainstorming and trying to figure out the cheapest way for my ol' truck(3/4F-250) to become a posi-track and the first option is a spool. But considering that i do have a +8500lb 5th wheel that gets pulled by the truck from time to time, i wasnt sure if this would be a good idea. If the tires chirp a little going around a curve, well, that is fine by me, i just dont want anything breaking.

    thanks for any input guys

One thing that will really matter is how sticky your tires are. If you have a spool and turn the corner you could snap an axle if you're loaded down. I don't think I would risk it. It would be cheaper to do it right the first time than to have to rebuild the rear end a second time. If you want to be cheap, get some nickel welding rod and weld the spider gears to the housing. Poor boy spool.

ummmm? yes, that would be a serious complication. Which is exactly why i have posed this question. i wouldnt consider my tires 'sticky' in any way shape or form, but with the 5th wheel putting a great deal of weight directly down over the tires.....well, i just dunno. Breaking an axle during a pleasure trip would certainly change the amount of pleasure derived from the trip.

Yeah, the cost of a tow truck for a truck and trailer, downtime, repair work away from home, a ruined vacation...... Nope, wouldn't risk it.

hey eric...it will not work with a spool...you will snap something the first time you go around a corner with a heavy load....

Don't do it. Keep an eye open on ebay and I'm sure you can grab a used Trac-Lok LSD for that 10.25" rear... then get a rebuild kit for it and you'll be good.

Well, actually, out of the 6 previous vehicles i have owned, this is my first non-chevy. It was being sold with the fifth wheel and was very clean with a decent price so i went for it. Its actually a pretty nice driving ol'truck. I just want it to be a wee bit faster. It runs low 17s(best 17.0) with muffler! being the only mod.

    Besides, I got a Chevy?
