    Re-build Parts

What's up guys? I know I haven't been around for a while but I have a quick question, can anybody tell me what parts I can re-use after tearing apart my 5.3. I've heard you can re-use the head gaskets and timing chain if they aren't in bad shape. Do I have to replace the main and rod bearings?

Personally I would never reuse a head gasket. All silicone embossed aluminum gaskets can usually be reused unless damaged. Only replace what needs replacing. What are you doing to the engine? Do not reuse head bolts. Do not reuse the crank bolt except to draw the pulley onto the engine.

I tore it apart to see why it wouldn't turn over, turns out there was a bunch of rust holding the piston against the cylinder wall. What brand head gasket would you recommend?

GM factory multi layer steel (MLS) are very dependable and reasonably priced. be sure you get new head bolts, too.
