with 2500 dollars do you actually expect to make 400 hp?

heres the thing, does the LS truely need to be stroked to make the same power as your beloved 383?

ill take a stock cubic motor make same power.

and 2500 for an entire build? hell my crank is 2k and change

yes if you build a motor with powder'd rods, hyper pistons and cast crank yes you have a bottomend but isnt worth crap IMHO

i love the sbc old style..just gotta get something little more dependable for cold days and every day.

i got a 78-79 350 bored .40 over head done with 4 barrel carb. in a short wide.
it will run never kick off pull what i need(me lol)

just tryin see which would be better swap for power.

5.3 smaller but it puts out more but price higher.

vortec 350 i could just transfer most of that stuff over to my block and have more power.

you can find a 5.3 for 500 bucks, find a harness and make it work, buy adapter plates for 50 bucks, buy a vette regulator/filter for 30 bucks i think. have much better platform, better gas and more power for less then 800 bucks.. now thats if you find a decent priced motor. ppl give 4.8s away and they make more HP then 350s

i highly doubt youl find anything more dependable then a traditional sbc, ls motors are probably the same they just aren't old enough to prove themselves yet. my point is i wouldn't shy away from the traditional if reliability is a concern.

Highest HP 5.3L available is 332hp.(factory) I now, I have one.

I wonder if the Ford boys are having the same pissiin' match?.? SBF VS. MOD.

The Dodge boys.....Modern Hemi VS. The Elephant.......

Too each his own, but I would be interested in a budget build SBC VS. LS and they have to be the same CI's. With factory heads the LS wins hands down or with aftermarket heads LS wins hands down. Hell, L92 heads out flow any aftermarket heads out of the box. My machinists has gotten over 400cfm with a moderate CNC port design. He's got a 454LSX motor in his EL CAMINO if some SBC guy wants to out power him.

I have never cared for the SBC. Cylinder head design. The BBC is my baby. If I didn't have my BBC in my 67. I would have a 400+CI LS motor with the 88's blowing thru it.

fords modular motors suck. i dont think iv ever seen one make any respectable power without tons of boost. you see tons of stangs with ls motors and even one with a dmax, yet i never see anything outside of ford powered by a modular motor.

anything stock lasts forever as long as its treated what it was intended for. once you start beating on something it shortends its life. you wont seen any of these high powerd diesels lasting 300k just wont happen. stock form pulling a trailer each week yes youll see 300k, making 500hp and 1k torque youll be lucky to see 50k miles at that level...this is relation to any motor. you boost a 1.8 civic motor for miles and it wont live as long as the mother of the son that drives to work everyday for 10 yrs.
