Another nice thing about the 5.7L is that if you trash the motor, a new block is easy to find for a reasonable price and you can reuse almost everything you already have. Just remove your old parts and install them in the new block. You cannot over-bore the cylinders more than .005" so you just replace the whole block, no machine work required. New replacement blocks are all over the place for a reasonable price, I have seen new bare blocks from $500 on Ebay. Sure there is no replacement for displacement but stroker cranks can give you the displacement your pocketbook/credit card can afford. You don't ever have to look for oversize pistons since they don't make them except for big bore kits that are very exotic items.
I got my short block for $1100 and it came with pistons, crank, rods, cam and lifters.
