    what should timing be set at with a scanner on a 1997 c1500 5.7 350?

    At what rpm and throttle position? It'll vary quite a bit.

    The question and answer may not match here.

    If it's an R 350 (stock type) timing is not adjustable by turning the HVS like an old distributor. Timing can only be changed in the 'puter. Twisting the HVS will only throw off the CMPS and the offset.

    If that's what you meant in the question, I apologize.

    man i am just trying to figure out why in the hell my truck is detonating, no matter where i get my fuel from. i have even ran a quart of water threw the TB to clean the carbon up and i still am having this issue!!!

    Me thinks you need a pro to actually look at your truck. If you are close enough to Nelson Performance or Gas Guzzler or RedHeartbeat you might try to get them to look at it.

    Maybe there's an update for your PCM, like a newer OS or fix?

    newer fix,what the hell is that suppost to mean.
    i finally got a check engine light,says OS failure due to cat.
    so i will proly be getting new y pipe w/cats and buying new O2s

    It probably means newer software for your computer. My showed false knock until I went with a 02 computer and updated software.
