    Something Different

I was thinking, instead of going with the "More Displacement" theory, I would like to head in a different direction. Stick with a stock displacement 5.3L (0.010" over for clean-up) and strap a Kenne Bell 2.8L supercharger to it. Run 12-14 psi with a goal of about 650RWHP. Effective displacment of about 500ci.

    Thoughts?

Sounds like a good idea, but the charger won't get you there alone, you'll need more mods.
10psi will get your truck another, let's say 150hp, add another 4psi, that's not 200hp yet.
    But, 500hp will feel awesome!
If this is a daily driver, stick with 8psi and have fun, if not, you'll need about another $10K to support that charger, lol.

screw the supercharger! (no seriously screw it!)

take your stock 5.3, do a cam swap + springs, bolt on a front mount T76 or a BW S480 and make 650+ to the wheels easy.

Not to start a flame, but where are you guys getting 650hp from a 5.3L from?
I'm sure there are 1 or 2 in existence, but come on, 10psi on a 5.3L is about 400hp, add a cam and you're at 450hp, go ahead and add another 5psi, you'll probably hit over 500hp, but not much, that's still close to 150hp shy.

You might be able to do it with a 6L and in a car, for example, twin turbo APS on a '06 GTO, 601hp with 10psi, but that's close to blowing the engine.

The stock rods won't hold 650whp for long, you'll get away with it for a while, but 650whp is a lot of damn hp, something a stock 5.3L just won't handle.

I just don't want to inflate his bubble and have him blow something, that's never fun .

crank it up! 600+hp has been done more than a few times on the stock bottom end, just have to make sure the tune is dead on (and it wont be on 'pump' gas) unless you flog it with meth.

I've seen only a couple and I'd like to see more. Any of you got links?

The truth is, 650hp is a lot of damn power and no way the 5.3L will hold, generally speaking, meaning, you can't tell anyone/everyone to crank it up and go make 650hp, only a few survive and 99% will blow the engine.
    15psi on a cammed 5.3L doesn't equal 650hp either, I guess that's what I had more of a question about.
That combination will not make 650hp. A stock 5.3L makes 250hp, you're asking for another 400whp from that 5.3L lol.

I hope others reply, I'd like to hear others opinion on this.

    thanks,
    allen

I'll round up some links for ya after i get home from the office, Right now i think there are about 10 people easily running 600+ on a stock 5.3 longblock, cam changes, springs, and change the rod bolts out for ARP's. I know of one particular one that has been flogging 9 second 1/4's in a mustang now for a year, the turbo fairmont (current stockblock record holder) has been around for 2-3years now, plus there are more.

The Iron block truck engines are stout as heck, but you have to know how to tune them and keep them safe as well.

I know about the Fairmont, that's pretty cool.
I've seen a few other dyno posts showing 600+hp.

I still say 12-14psi, cam and 5.3L (like oringally posted above) will not get 650whp, there has to be more to it. I didn't say the block won't hold it, I said a few will make it hold, but generally speaking, when someone asks and they are told to make an "easy" 650hp, that is not possible.
Just so it's clear, 12-14psi, cam, with stock 5.3L, will not make 650whp, that much pressure doesn't equal that much power.
