Yeah, maybe. It was fried and had missing parts though.

I don't think this is reflective of something lacking on FLT's part. The internals were cooked because someone bypassed the trans cooler int eh radiator and simply ran it through a very small aftermarket cooler. That cooler wasn't enough - my temps at the track (which also means on the street) were at 270 degrees. Water boils at 212 degrees. My temps NOW with the deeper pan, running through the radiator, and the 40k gvw cooler are a little over 100 degrees.

I wasn't aware of any parts missing?

"Missing" is a loose term to describe leaving out the selective washers to make more room for clutches...which requires thinner clutch plates.

The fact the FLT you have (had) was missing so many parts and had been "modified" so much made impossible to figure out what they did when it was "built" before.

Glad I'm not a moderator and I'm sure we won't see this post much longer....

There is only one selective washer in a 4l60E. The one behind the bearing on the input drum to the stator. Now there are different thickness pressure plates for the forward clutch, reverse input clutch and also for the 3-4 clutch. Also trust me that unit had all the required parts in it for it to work properly with absolutely no missing parts.

Because all the parts were there. Just not ones that a back yard builder see's when building stock units.

Does it work yet? Oh wait I think it went to a trans shop to get repaired! Maybe there are missing parts!

DamnYankee I really wish you would have sent that unit back instead of taking the route you took. I think maybe you can see why now. Good luck. Vince

FWIW Vince, one of the steels was missing out of a clutch pack. We don't know that maybe someone else had gone through the transmission in the past. Nobody should be pointing any fingers at FLT since we don't know the history of the transmission since it was bought used.

all in all the trans did take a whole lot of abuse, the guy Moze got it from sprayed a 150 shot on it for who knows how many bottles and Moze beat in it for a year, part of that with some boost, that trans had more beating on then any of my built ones have had, i was impressed for sure...

Now Moze is in a hoe for a couple of days...how does it feel to be cruising a slow daily
    2006 silverado SS....Clifford Jr...turbo coming soon
