Anyone know if a Cam Swap will void my warranty?
I'd like to cam my new truck, but I don't want to void the warranty.

Put an original GM camshaft in there and let them prove it didn't come from the factory that way. LS6 sounds good to me.

i think it depends on the situation. if it is simple stuff nopt engine related then i dont think they will even care. but if it is engine related then yes it will. not sure what they will say while it is sitting there loping.

Its my understanding that anything that messes with the internals of the engine will void the warranty.

Yes (smartass) I really need to ask this. :flipoff:
Because I have a 5 year 75k mile warranty.
If there is a loophole I'm going to find it. Gonna check with my service manager next week on it.
I can't afford forced induction at this time, and I'd hate to have to go to Nitrous to make power after I finish my bolt on's (which will happen in record time since I already have them ready to install as soon as the motor is broken in.)

i have a tune -cam-ported tb-headers and all my mods. unless it is directly related to the parts then they have to repair it.they willnot repair and engine or transmission under warranty if it has aftermarket parts on it. i guess the best bet is to put the parts on and then drive it like you stole it. if it is something other than engine or transmission related i think they will repair it. but they can be dicks and not repair anything. i guess i have gotten lucky when my truck was under warranty i went to a dealer that was cool with it.

If you're worried about the warrantee you can save your stock parts and put them all back on before taking the truck back for warrantee work. Buy a PCM from Allen instead of having him program yours. Any time it goes back to the stealership for repairs put it all back stock to avoid confrontations. Honestly though, I can't recall a single time I had to take a GM product back for engine/transmission work before 100k in the last 17 years of GM ownership. Usually is something unrelated to the drivetrain. Oil technology and improved metallurgy has made those issues a thing of the past unless you do something like remove or increase the rev limiter in the PCM. The factory powdered metal rods won't handle 8000 rpms for too long. Any modification you make to the engine, transmission or fuel management is at your own risk IMO. Be a stand-up guy and take responsibility for your own actions. Don't try to blame big brother for damage you cause yourself. GM doesn't build their trucks for 150 nitrous shots or turbos/blowers. I can understand why they wouldn't want to honor the warrantee on altered engines.

I would not have asked this question without good reason folks.
My 2003 had to have the transmission replaced at 17k miles and she was bone stock at the time. I have very little faith in the NVG 3500, after the replacement the tranmsmission itself ran fine, but I ended up forking over 500 bucks for a shift-tower gasket.
Swapping parts back to stock is all good and well except I can't be taking a cam in and out when I go to the dealership. I bought the warranty to cover the driveline I don't even care about the rest of the stuff, so I don't want to void that part of it.
The PCM swap won't work because i'll be swapping the gears and I won't be able to go back to the factory gears when I put the factory PCM back in.
Greg, we are not talking about Nitrous or blowers here, we are talking about a cam. I don't need a lecture just opnions. Thanks for the input folks.
