I know where there is a 2002 5.3L with 24k on it going for $1200 with the harness.... but that still ain't exactly cheap.

One of my buddies works in a chevy dealership in fresno ca and they cought a guy trying to swap motors out of a rental truck. i guess the guy blew up his motor in like a 00 chevy and he rented same exact truck then when the rental place went to warrenty the motor they ran the vin on the block and they traced it back to him. he got arrested and got stuck with a fat bill

Like you said, a 4 bolt lt1 is hard to come by and they are plenty expensive. I have a good one I just pulled out of my truck that I put my 2001 ls1 into. I would sell it to someone for 2500 complete with computer and the wiring harness that will need to be patched into a donor vehicle. This motor has 100k on it but runs like a striped arsed ape. Has an adjustable fuel regulator, accel coil, Street and Performance chip in the computer and all the Corvette accessories. This is a TRUE Corvette LT1, not a camaro or firebird LT1 with the Corvette accessories. The motor has Edelbrock headers included with it but they leak a bit. It will never pass a smog test due to the chip in the computer being only for performance, not emissions(bought the street rod version). It has an air foil on the intake and a custom dual three inch intake that bring air from behind the front bumper, below the radiator for cool air. These motors are easily bored oversize, stroked and good for performance build ups. I wanted to reduce weight for off-roading so I went for the LS1. 80 lbs makes a world of difference.
