    I see.

Generally "remove and replace" means take a part off and put a new one or other used one in it's place.

OK...in this case I refer to my very first post here. I have heard of some people supposedly getting away with loosening the pick-up to pump bolt then using mechanic's wire to keep it from falling into the pan before removing it completely. You must then tweak the tube ever so slightly while maneuvering the pump in the proper direction to get it free. I have never tried it but there was a write up a few years ago in one of the magazines (Chevy High Performance?) on how they did it.

Yes, but since the pick-up tube mounting bracket is bolted to a main bearing saddle, you can't remove the tube w/o removing the pan, which requires pulling the engine. I would think a trained GM tech would know this.

You are intent on making this difficult.

For one, you obviously have another username OR you know me from somewhere else. For seconds, if you knew that all along, why did you drag this topic out when NO ONE else was responding?

There's a fly in the ointment.

The tube is not bolted to a saddle, it's NUTTED in two places to main studs.

My instructions in the last post never said to REMOVE the tube.

You are horrible at debate and this will be my last response to a useless topic. No, you don't have to pull the engine to remove the pan you rube.
