FWIW, you don't need the nuetral safety to start & run.

Damn I hate to hear these issues. I'm running a set of 98 Escalade gauges in mine and they work fine and the neutral safety switch is still wired to the factory harness without the old PCM. All of the tranny wires still plug into the firewall connector like they were originally. I took the factory harness left everything in it except for the engine wiring (fuel injectors, etc...) and made a plug and play mini harness for the e fans and A/C. When you guys pulled the original harness out did you have new wiring made for the automatic tranny too or just splice in?

I don't see why the old gauges won't work unless they are bad, the only thing you'll gain is 120 mph on the cluster instead of 100 mph which is cool!

Put mine in yesterday, looks awesome and it fixed my tach but idk about the gas gauge. Nitrous, Allen said for some reason the 98 gauge cluster just doesn't want to work with the computer. the 96 an 97s work though..

I have a 1998 Police Pursuit Package Tahoe speedo cluster that reads up to 130mph. When I installed it in my 1997 rcsb everything worked except for the speedo. A Dakota Digital VSS buffer is needed to get the speedo to read correctly. IIRC everything else worked correctly including the fuel level. If I have a chance I will throw the cluster in my 97 to double check to make sure the fuel tank level guage will work.
