Definately shop around and find a used LSx motor... I've found all the parts mentioned in my sig (basically the full engine) for under $600. Gotta love LSx towns (TSP is down the road)!

I've done a couple LS1 to OBS truck conversions. I like them. Where are you located? Some states won't allow an older engine in a newer vehicle. You'd have to install a 05+ PCM to control the LS1 engine and that would be a royal pain.

im in tn emissions are not a concern. i can get a wrecked 99 z28 with motor and tranny for 1500. or a 5.3 already pulled with harness for 750. witch would be the best? simplest?

Depends on the look you want. The LS1 is best for power and weight. The 5.3 is a stout setup and you can use all stock parts in your truck. Personally, I think I'd do the 5.3 just because of the simplicity of the swap and all the accessories are made to fit the truck best.
