When you checked the transmission fluid, did you see any metallic flakes? Did the fluid smell burnt? You may have had the sunshell break, then smoked the clutches by trying to drive it.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. My mechanic here in town is a retired GM guy. I know him well, he treats me right, stands behind his work, I know from past experience he won't hose me. I'll talk to him and see if it's something he can do. He doesn't have the full shop so there are a few things he doesn't have the equipment for. If he can do it I'll get a shift kit and 'Vette servo and have him put them in while he's at it. Hopefully it's just a plugged filter.

    Thanks again.

Nope, no metallic flakes. I talked about how the fluid smelled further up the page. It was a short drive home so hopefully I didn't do too much damage. I will definitely tow it to be fixed.

    Thanks.

Since no metallic flakes, I think your sunshell broke. Let us know what's found after it's apart.

This is a photo of a broken sunshell. They usually make a clean break, so no metal shavings. I don't know much about automatic transmissions, besides that they work on black magic and voodoo, but I think the sunshell houses the low & reverse clutches, and 2nd gear band? straps around it. When it breaks, people usually hear a noise, find out that now all the gears are not working, but they try to drive it anyway to save a tow bill, and then smoke everything else.

Or the converter crapped its pants... Hahahhaha, oh wait....

But seriously, since it won't move under its own power, that does sound like a possibility.

I finally got hold of my mechanic last night. He thinks he might be able to get to the 'Ho towards the end of next week. I'll drag it down to him the first of the week so it's around when he needs it. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Thanks for the help.
