    Alternative to Cal-Tracs?

So my buddy and I r talking about traction bars for my trk and he says "instead of spending $ on caltracs lets fab and make an adj. pinion snubber"
Its a damn good idea but what i want to know has anybody done this.
I probaly could do it for at least $50 if I dont have the right metal at my house.

What I was thinking was bolting in a brace between the frame rails and using square tubing and have the rubber snubber adj. with a pin you could pull out and change postions in another hole.

I might have to draw a pic to show what im talking about. I know Cal-tracs r the best but damn there expensive.

what do you do, install the snubber at the track every time? I'd be interested to see what the plan is.

well i drew a pic but it sucks big time!

I was thinking of using square tubing to run from frame rail to frame rail and it would go right over the pinion of the rearend. I then would use another piece of tubing vertically right over the pinion. Then I would use another piece of tubing that slid into the one I just used and drill some adj. hole and use a pin from a reciever hitch. Of couse I need the rubber snubber on the end!

At the track I would pull the pin and insert into the hole needed for the track and when im done pull it again lift up to the postion where it has a couple inches between the pinion of rearend and snubber.

Makes since this will work I seen something similiar used on a mustang .
I'll attempt another drawing to clear it up.

Sorry but it sounds pretty ghetto. Just spend the money and get some caltracs.

If I understand what your plan is, it will only keep the rear of the truck from squatting on your launch. Your leaf pack will still wrap up on you. If you can build this pinion snubber, you probably could build traction bars, and they would work.

I think it will make your traction problem worse. You'd still get spring wrap, but no weight transfer to the rear.

there is an article out there that explains how to make a set of cal-tracs... if you can fabricate stuff and can weld then you can do it for cost of materials. i use to have the article but i know its over on FSC.com
