    Engine ID

So i got my 5.3 for the swap into my 74 K-5 Blazer and when i bought it i was told it was a 2003 engine. When i started going through the wiring harness it had a tag on it saying it was made in 04 i thought that was weird. Then i started to look at my engine and it has a no return type fuel rail and when i looked at the 2003 chevy truck with a 5.3 in my drive way it had a return. IS there any way to know for sure what year my engine it? Would the PCM pinouts be the same between 03 and 04?

Does it have an electronic throttle body or cable type? If cable, does it have a cable mounting bracket on the intake?

Thats what im wondering were there any major changes in thoses years , i know that it has the no return style fuel rail and a 03 does have return so that makes things a little harder and the fact that i need to know what vin to use when tuning the PCM

You have an 04... I do too and the 03 has a return and the 04 didnt... The only problem I have heard of is that the returnless wont support as much power as the return style... This is fixable by an after market fuel pump, injectors, and a good tune. wich you would have gotton anyways.

What were you planning on as far as throttle and fuel setup?

I will most likely get a new fuel rail and run the stock injectors and return system, i am planning on keeping the electronic throttle setup for now, this is going in a 4x4 so i am not after as much upper end power
