Alright........I made the mistake of letting my g/f drive my truck
So as a "nice gesture" she takes it to a local car wash and has it washed. Well she didn't know that brushes scratch the paint and now I have four 3/4 inch scratches on my driver side door. Just clear-coat scratches.....and I also have a nice swirl that you can barely see on the front fender.
My question is about how to remove them or "fill" them in. I got some rubbing compound from one of my friends at Maaco but he didn't give me much info on how to apply this stuff.

Its just this beige gritty stuff in a little bottle.......no directions. So any help on application of this stuff would be helpful....like what type of cloth to use, how hard to rub it in, how long to let it set.

    Thanks,
    Ron

I would wet sand it as a last resort - If you are comfortable wet sanding and buffing - if not try polishing compound
They make diff grades of grit
I would try light first - if that doesnt do it - get more abrasive in steps
until you find what works for you
Do a small section at a time
May also try a rotary buffer
Time and patience - should get allot of it out....
If not 2000 paper wet - carefully and then buff it - carefully.....
Use good products also - - stuff from WalMart, and Pepboys arent going to cut it
Check into a good Autobody supply store.....

I just took some scratches out of my hood yesterday.I wet sanded with 1500 grit, then rubbing compound by hand, and then hand glaze. These were some deep scratches too.If it is just surface scratches just rub with the rubbing compound and then with a hand glaze.

I've got a few scratches I know can be filled, wet sanded, and buffed out...places here try to tell me I need to repaint half of my truck!

I wish I could find a kickass detail/body shop in the DFW area.
