    1996 Z71 - Ls6?

Hey guys I have been lurking for a while and searching the forums to try and find some info that I have yet to see.

I have a 1996 Z-71 Pick-up with a 5.0L 305 Chevy that is very much lacking any kind of power. A friend of mine just recently put a 440 LS7 in his Z06 and has a LS6 left over and I have been kicking the idea of droping it into my truck.

What I wanted to know is if there is a bell housing that will mate the LSX motor to the 96 Tranny.

If there is where is the best place to look for conversion parts like motor mounts and bellhousings?

Sorry if this is a question that gets asked often but I have just had no luck finding the answers to these couple of questions.

No special bellhousing required, use what you have. Flywheel/flexplate will require a crankshaft spacer and longer bolts. Motor mount adapters are available on Ebay, just a plate that bolts on the engine block and moves the mount holes. See the conversion section OBS to LS1 conversion for more information.

do it bro thats like 315hp to the wheels to start with, as apposed to 225, which is what 5.3l have. with you in the truck, and if its extended cab You should hit low 14's high 13's with a stock motor!!!

I am very seriously considering it now. After doing some thinking I believe that I have a 700R4 Tranny instead of a 4L60 but that really shouldn't be a huge hurdle to overcome.

As of right now the LS6 is in need of some new pistons as it went a bit lean and yep you guessed it #7 got a wee bit abused. At any rate I have the long block and misc. parts and pieces that friends are willing to sell me to complete the project. Since it seems the motor mounts are fairly easy to come by really the only major obsticle to overcome will be retrofitting a wiring harness together and getting my alternator hooked up.

If any of you guys have some suggestions on things like a good how to read....or maybe a thread to follow please pipe in I am all for reading up and getting educated.

    Thanks for the interest.

    If you have a 96 model transmission, it's a 60e not a 700r4. They started the 60e transmission into truck in 93.

It's hard to compete with a ready-made 4 or 5 wire connection engine wiring harness vs trying to convert one yourself. I'd highly recommend one. NelsonPerformance can build you one up and all you do is hook into the existing wiring. Finding an LS1/LS6 factory harness gets harder all the time. A new one is crazy expensive.
