Need Fuel Pressure specs on an '02

Hi, my buddy's '02 Tahoe flex fuel 5.3 gave him problems this morning. He said he had to hold the gas pedal down some to keep it from dying at idle and at lower speeds. I did some checking over of it and it had no DTC's or other obvious problems. I did do a fuel pressure check and got 42 psi at idle, 52 psi with the vacuum line off the regulator. Engine off with the pump priming I got 52 psi then it drops down to 46 psi almost immediately after the pump stops priming, then it bleeds off another 10 psi in 10 minutes in pressure leaving the key ON & the engine OFF. Pulled the vacuum line & saw no fuel come out of the fuel pressure regulator while the system was pressurized. So, is this ok? If not can you get me some specs for this truck's fuel system? TIA.

First thing to check/replace would be the water temp sensor. When they fail you get all kinds of weird things going on. Check for chafed wiring around the sensor. Also, find a 2nd vehicle to test your fuel pressure gage against.

Thanks for that reply. I did scan the data and the temp sensor seemed ok. Will check over the wiring. Don't have a 2nd Tahoe to compare with...

Any Gen3 truck should be running the same fuel pressures, doesn't have to be a tahoe. They are the same drivetrains.

My 2001 runs at about 48 - 50 PSI at idle its not a flex fuel but should be the same. I have had the same kinda problem before and it turned out to be a bad fuel pump. I installed a Walbro 255lph in the tank, but be ready its not a direct drop in you will need to do some slight modifications to get it to work...
