Larger Fuel Tank for 1/2 TON long body??? Help

Folks, I know that the 3/4 ton suburbans came with the 39 gallon Fuel tank, but the 1/2 ton came with a 30. I want to know if anyone knows if I can just buy a 3/4 ton fuel tank and stick in my 1/2 ton?

I have the EScalade ESV AWD by the way, but I think it should not matter, as it was mostly the same as the 1/2 ton Suburban, except those are 4WD.

    Any thoughts?

I have a 2006. They had a major change from 2006 to 2007. I am willing to cough up the money, if I knew it would fit.

I have looked hard to find out what teh gas tank size for 2006 3/4ton Suburban or Yukon XL but have not been able to find any info.

    Any words of wisdom?

Some salvage yards will give you a tank without a fuel pump. They can't crush the tanks for obvious reasons.

According to Alldata this is looking up a 2006 3/4 ton suburban with the 6.0L. But it is probably applicable across the 3/4 line.

    Fuel Tank Capacity
    Regualr Model............................................. ............ 26.0 Gallons (98.4 liters)
Extended Model (1500 Series).................................... 31.0 Gallons (117.3 liters)
Extended Model (2500 Series).................................... 37.5 Gallons (140.0 liters)

You know They did come with 8.1L as an option still. Thats great to know that they at least had the 37.9 Gallon. Now I all I have to do is figure out if the fitment is a drop in or is it a major project.

I have not been able to find any aftermarket options. I think that it should drop in, I cannot see why it would not God knows I have been wrong before though.

I guess I need to find a mechanic who really knows these cars well before I drop the money to buy the tank.

Does anye know any good shops that would the 3/4 ton vs 1/2 ton differences really well?

    Thanks to everyone.

Go into the shop at your local dealership and ask one of the techs if they know. They see a majority of these vehicles so maybe they know if there is a difference in fitment between the tanks.

Thanks, Yes I Wthink I will do that. I should probably clal first. I am just affraid it will be one of those little things that will turn up to be a deal killer. I think I also have the Fuel Pump. Then I wonder if the fuel lines are all the same or if the larger tank has some different return line, etc...

I guess it would help if the tech worked on both of them, but the dealerships never let you talk to the mechanics and usually its a service advisor who does not know anything :-)

Yeah, ask a tech--not a service advisor. If they can't help, you may just need to get down and dirty to find out yourself. The tanks hould have the same style of fuel lines...the tanks are pretty much the same--one just holds more capacity than the other...
