Wouldn&#39;t that cause a total loss of backpressure, severely hurting your torque numbers? Also it would cool the exaust gasses quite a bit, and cold gasses move slower.

Yeah, backpressure could be a thing of the past. Imagine, a naturally aspirated engine where the spent gases were not only pushed out of the head but drawn out also. I would think it would be best about 12" or so from the end of the tailpipe.
