Here's what happens:
We take our current approach, which we'll call "Approach A". It's a fair approach, but no matter how fair, there will be an extremely small percentage of the members that disagrees with the approach.
We could take a number of alternate approaches, but we will have the same exact outcome. Some of the members that don't like "Approach A" will be perfectly fine with "Approach B". But then there will come a new small percentile that posts up because they don't like "Approach B". So we try "Approach C" - same thing happens.
Right now, the moderators and admins get a steady influx of PM's, suggestions in the chat box, suggestions posted here, about what we "should do" or what would be "better".
The following is a fact: NO ONE here types faster than they think. Your truck might be fast but there isn't some "mod" you can do to your fingers so you can enter words faster than your brain is thinking them (if you DO, please PM me...I want in on that). So as you're typing, and you get as far as "fu" or "sh"...your brain is going to say: "Nope, can't use that word" before you even finish typing, or at the very least before you submit your comment. If you get stumped and can't thing of a synonym, PM me - I have a pretty good grasp on English and can give you some suggestions. If you happen to swear in the chat box or elsewhere on the site, you'll get an "infraction" (OOOOOOOOOHHHHHH)...calm down. All that is is a PM saying, hey you cussed, this is a friendly reminder not to use that language here. Maybe you slip again. So what, you get another (oh crap) infraction. Whooptie do. Just another reminder. If you get three infractions, it's a 3-day ban since we can't reach through the computer and shake you and say "what the crap?!? - STOP SWEARING!!"
There could be worse things you guys. We're doing this to keep the site family friendly. Any logical person can wrap their brain around that.
Some of the above was written in an attempt to get a couple of laughs. But in all seriousness guys, it is what it is, the approach will work with your help, and refraining from using obscenities while on the site will result in a pleasant environment for everyone.
