'05 Z-71 crew-cab 5.3 appx 56XXX miles

When I turn the steering wheel (left or right) while moving, there is a knocking noise that I can feel through the steering wheel. Sometimes it is louder than others and on bumpy roads it gets bad. Is this a bad tie-rod, ball-joint or somethign else. I admit that I don't know jack mechanically so I don't want to get bent over when I eventually take this in for repair.
